My Sister’s Wedding
08.02.2010
On 22 November 2009 my younger sister Bojana and her beloved Vitomir tied the knot at Saborna Church in Kragujevac.
The wedding was organized without big words and high expectations. “Saborno” (this old Serbian word goes beyond translation), two families and eight members together as one were preparing detail by detail. The air of serenity and good vibes spread through the two houses during the preparations since both believed it was not only the right person, but the right moment too for marriage.
Vitomir Rasic passed his final exam at the University of Political Sciences in Belgrade and Bojana Tomic got her permanent job as a pharmacist in Kragujevac. Having recently before marked their fifth anniversary together there was nothing more to wait.
Unusually for this part of the year, the weather was quite warm and sunny. In the morning of the last Sunday before the Christmas fast, the guests gathered at our home. Full of warmth and youth, cheerful and carefree parade was followed by the musicians trumpeting their way around our yard. After a small ceremony, with a permanent smile on their faces, the broom and his bride proceeded towards the church.
Solemn and awe-inspiring air descended whilst we watched our much-loved Bojana and Vita enter a new life. Serious, but alive with spirit and thrill, they seemed so young, yet so mature and ready, keen on taking that new role of a husband and a wife... Almost at the end of the wedding ceremony the church quire appeared. Its delightful spiritual songs completed the scene of harmony and bliss of the two sworn to become one in eternal love.
The lunch at hotel Kragujevac followed and the civilian wedding as its central part. Vitomir’s “yes” was confident and assertive while Bojana’s comment was as joyful as anyone who knows my sister would have expected. To the question “Do you Bojana Tomic take Vitomir Rasic as your husband…” she replied: “Nego šta“, transl.”Sure I do”.
One of the greatest sensations of the day was certainly a tango dance diligently prepared by the newly wedded couple. Young and cheerful, focused on their moves, they marched at the tango music and attracted our spontaneous applause and admiration.
One thing I will remember: The feeling of togetherness, and faces radiating delight… My little sis turned into a woman and a wife.
